York Hagmayer’s research is focused on causal reasoning and decision making. He works together with Michael Waldmann at the University of Goettingen. His work builds causal model theory and its application to decision making. One of the main assumptions of these theories is that persons use assumptions about causal models to interpret learning data and derive judgments about causal relations. His research has shown that this is in fact the case. Causal models also enable participants to act in a way to maximize their expected outcomes.
