Prof. Walter HECQ is the Director of the Centre for Economic and Social Studies on the Environment (CESSE - ULB) linked to the Institute of Sociology of the Université Libre de Bruxelles. He is/was involved in several research programmes at European (ARTISTS, STAIRRS, COST, TACIS, Preparation of "ExternE" project, etc), as well as federal and regional levels. He is Associate Professor in "Environmental Economics". He also gives lectures on "Vehicle traffic and air pollution: Regulatory, environmental and economic aspects" under the aegis of the course entitled "Transport and the environment" of the “Maîtrise Interuniversitaire en Gestion des Transports”. Université Libre de Bruxelles, Université Catholique de Louvain, Faculté Polytechnique de Mons et Université de Liège.
The CESSE is a research centre which uses the development and the application of decision-making instruments in trying to answer environmental challenges deriving from economic and social development.
