Originally a philologist specialising in English and Dutch (Brussels 1987), Philippe De Brabanter retrained as a linguist. His PhD on the semantics and pragmatics of ordinary metalanguage (with special emphasis on quotation), has led him to take an interest notably in linguistic deference, anaphora, code-switching and utterances that mix non-linguistic with linguistic constituents. Currently a postdoctoral fellow at Institut Jean Nicod, he has just edited issue 17 of the Belgian Journal of Linguistics devoted to “Hybrid Quotation”.
