Paul Bloom is a cognitive scientist. Most of his research in the last decade has focused on language and concepts. He is also interested in the role of social cognition in children's language development, and in the related issue of the role of intentions in the interpretation of works of art. He is the author notably of How Children Learn the Meaning of Words, 2000 and, most recently, of a study of children's dualist conception of the world, Descartes' Baby: How the Science of Child Development Can Explain What Makes Us Human, 2004.
