Mark Bickhard's research interests focus on the nature, evolution, and development of persons, as biological, psychological, and social beings — and on the possibilities of artificial persons. One integrating theme is a model of normative representation based on interaction and the possibilities for interaction, rather than on the processing of received inputs. Another is the emergence of the social level of ontology, involving social realities, persons, and language.
