David Lehmann is a Reader in Social Sciences at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, University of Cambridge. He was formerly Director of the Centre of Latin American Studies, and is the author of Struggle for the Spirit: Popular Culture and Religious Transformation in Brazil and Latin America (Polity Press, 1996). He is currently undertaking research on the Shas movement in Israel.
