Avigdor Arikha (b. 1929) is a painter. He is also an art historian, and the author of Peinture et Regard (1991), On Depiction, (1994) as well as essays and catalogues for exhibitions he curated, among which Poussin (Louvre, 1979, Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, 1983); Ingres (Israel Museum, Musée des Beaux Arts, Dijon, 1981, Frick Collection, New York, 1986). He lives mostly in Paris.
